Vivids Care Guide

Get the most out of your hair color!

You just paid good money for your beautiful hair.  It may be purple or it may be red, but there are some simple steps that can make your color last longer.  Following these steps is the only way I can guarantee you will get the most out of your color.

  1. Cold Water

No one wants to hear it, but washing in cold water will help the color stay in your hair and not down your drain.

  2. Don’t Wash Everyday

Or even every other day.  The more days you can put between washes, the longer your color will last.  Besides, washing too often gets rid of a the natural oils your hair makes.  Yeah, you may be a greasy mess for a couple of days, but dry shampoo is your best friend.  Once your hair gets used to less frequent washes, the greasy days won’t be so often.

  3. Use the Right Shampoo & Conditioner

You paid for quality salon service, so why wash it with Pantene?  Use a quality shampoo and conditioner that are free of sulfates, paraben, and other ingredients that can strip and dull the color in your hair.  I personally recommend Redken Color Magnetics, Kenra Color Care, or Joico K-Pak Color.

  4. Heat Protection

When styling your hair, make sure you use heat protection and the proper heat setting.  For protection, a blow dry spray or an oil will work best.  I recommend Kenra Blow Dry Spray, Moroccan oil, or a leave-in conditioner like Unique One Spray.  The correct heat setting depends on hair type.  High heat shouldn’t be used on thin hair, while thicker hair can handle higher temperatures.

  5. Maintenance

When you make the leap and get a vivid color job, these colors may have to be touched up more than regular colors.  Most vivids need a touch up between 4-6 weeks.  This means another trip to your stylist, but that’s the only way to insure the color and health of your hair.  Drugstore color is not the same as the color hair stylists use and it should not be used on your beautiful hair.
